Orlando Bingles’ Rocky Mountain High: Day 1

by Bingle on May.19, 2009, under Richard Bingle Family

Well, the Orlando Bingle’s are off on another whirlwind early summer vacation, this time to various spots in the Rockies. Day one was pretty uneventful due to our flight arrangements, not being scheduled to arrive in Jackson, WY until after 8:15 p.m. The first leg of the trip from Orlando to Denver was alright despite the take-off and approach/landing being pretty rough as it was raining as we left Orlando and was threatening rain as we arrived in Denver. While our second flight from Denver to Jackson technically “left on time”, that’s only because the only criteria for being “on time” is that you’ve pushed back from the gate. We taxied and waited, taxied and waited, taxied and waited for about 45 minutes before it was our turn to take off. Views out the window of the Rockies were great until we got above the clouds and great again as we dropped below them again before landing. We had managed to get our seats rearranged for the second flight (we were originally all assigned various middle seats) and Ashley saw what she thought might be pronghorn antelope as we came in for a landing (we would later decide that they might have been elk). By the time we got our rental car and drove in the dark (seeing no elk or moose or buffalo like all the signs were warning us about) to our hotel, Teton Mountain Lodge in Teton Village (about a 40 minute drive) and checked in, it was getting pretty late. Since the hotel had a nice indoor pool we opted for a quick swim before heading to bed.
