Orlando Bingles’ Western Adventure: Day 6
by Bingle on Jun.06, 2008, under Richard Bingle Family
Boy is it hot! Good thing we’ll be spending the day in and on the 70ish degree water of Lake Havasu!
We rented a speedboat, tube, and kneeboard from Wet Monkey and headed down to the lake. We didn’t have to wait more than a minute in line at the boat ramp and soon had the boat in the water and were ready for action. We headed south so that I could get a feel for the boat and find a nice non-crowded area where we could put the tube off the back of the boat and start bouncing around. Ashley was the first volunteer, followed quickly by Amber, Alyssa, and Karen. Then it was my turn.
Everything was going great until I slid outside the wake of the boat and when I came back in the tube flipped and I went sailing. Unfortunately, I was apparently hanging on a bit too hard and managed to jam or break a couple of fingers on my right hand. This made my subsequent attempts later in the day somewhat of a challenge as I basically had to hang on with my thumbs (probably not wise). After my turn we started back through the rotation, switching off when someone would fall off or get worn out from hanging on.
Later in the afternoon, Karen and the girls would all try out the knee board as well. Amber seemed to have a distinct advantage when it came to pulling herself up into a kneeling position on the board, but I think the girls all had fun trying it.
After trying kneeboarding, we went back to tubing for the rest of the afternoon. When it was nearing time to get the boat back to the ramp, we took a (slow) trip under the relocated London Bridge, all took a dip in the lake to cool off, and took Ashley for one last tube ride across the width of the lake and Amber for one last ride back across the width of the lake.
After turning the boat back in, we got a bite to eat at In-N-Out there in Lake Havasu City and hopped back in the van as we had some driving to do before stopping for the night.
Next stop, Lake Mead!
